TNPM - Mass Data Extractions (MDE) Windows Client

Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)

The MDE Windows client fails with the error "The Network Adapter could not establish the connection" Symptom

The following error appears in the MDE related logs:

java.sql.SQLException: Io exception: The Network Adapter could not establish the connection Cause

The Windows MDE client is unable to make a connection to the DB server.

From a Windows client, the MDE authenticates via TIP, but will establish a direct connection with the Database server. During this process, the MDE will use the hostname for the Database that is saved in the topology. If a shortname/alias is saved in the topology, the MDE will not be able to resolve this name.

Resolving the problem

1. Update the Windows hosts file with the fully qualified hostname for the Database server and/or

2. Use the fully qualified hostname for the Database server in the topology
