In 2020 Chorus launched their XGS-PON service - marketed as Hyperfibre Home https://sp.chorus.co.nz/taxonomy/term/345, this allows residential customers access to speeds >1GB. The service is provisioned using a new 'desktop' ONT which can act as a RGW or can be set in bridge mode (which effectively delivers the UFB service on a copper 10G Port).

There are some 10G Capable consumer RGW/Routers available however most have a single 10G / 10GbaseT WAN port and only 1G LAN ports.

To get the most of a >1Gbps connection we wanted the ability to have a WAN and multiple LAN Ports able to support 5Gbps, after months of research and a delayed installation due to Covid-19 - when a CPE/RGW was required Miktotik released the cloud core CCR2004-1G-12S+2XS a device meeting the requirements and not circa $3000NZD as most of the available solutions ended up being.

IPv6

The IPv6 Package comes as part of the OS in v7, what is not advertised is that IPv6 is disabled by default (and not shown in the GUI) Execute the following to enable IPv6

/ipv6/settings/set disable-ipv6=no

Getting addresses using DHCP-PD Client (as used by Trustpower - assigns a /56 prefix)

/ipv6/dhcp-client/add add-default-route=yes interface=WANvlan10 pool-name=poolIPv6 request=address,prefix

Verify an address and prefix have been assigned

/ipv6/dhcp-client/print

Assign an address to the LAN bridge/interface /ipv6/address/add from-pool=poolIPv6 interface=LANbridge1
